There is no better way to become a filmmaker than to simlpy start making films.
New York Film Academy is honored to have many of the industry’s best impart their knowledge to our students as guest speakers, including Kim Cattrall, Seth Rogen, Kevin James, Glenn Close, Bryan Cranston, Rachel Maddow, Jamie Lee Curtis, J. K. Simmons, Mira Nair, Russell Hornsby, William Wegman, and many more.
The New York Film Academy was founded on the philosophy that "learning by doing" combined with best industry practices is more valuable than years of theoretical study for filmmakers and actors. This educational model allows students to achieve more in less time than at all other film or acting schools in the world.
For those considering sharpening their skills, the New York Film Academy offers a wide selection of immersive, hands-on workshops, where working industry professionals teach students to create their own original work using the latest techniques, industry-standard equipment, and premier facilities. Students interested an intensive short-term workshop can choose from topics in filmmaking, acting for film, photography, producing, screenwriting, documentary filmmaking, broadcast journalism, 3D animation, digital editing, game design, virtual reality, and musical theatre.
Each program is structured for students who want intensive training from award-winning faculty, using professional facilities and equipment starting their first day of classes; better preparing them for a career in the motion picture and entertainment industries. In the first year of any of our filmmaking programs each student will write, shoot, direct and edit eight films and work as crew on 28 more!
Designed equally for beginning actors as well as those with experience, the Academy’s acting school provides actors with intensive training in screen acting, modern on-camera acting techniques, and supporting acting classes, which contribute to the creation of a filmed performance and have helped place NYFA amongst the top acting schools and best colleges for acting.
Unlike other acting colleges, the emphasis at the New York Film Academy’s acting school is on providing practical experience and hands-on education to our students so that not only do they develop their craft as actors, but excel at acting in front of the camera. Our Acting for Film instructors are all professional, working actors, writers, directors, and producers—veterans of Hollywood, independent film, and television—who give each student a personal focus and teach the rigorous discipline necessary for launching a career in film and television.
Considered amongst the best cinematography schools in the world, the New York Film Academy is committed to training a new wave of cinematographers to use industry standard cameras. As cinematography students work on each other’s films they will gain hands-on experience working with HD cameras, 16mm film, 35mm film, and RED EPIC digital video cameras. From the very first day of cinematography classes students will be behind the camera, receiving instruction from a faculty of successful and professional cinematographers. Our cinematography school’s curriculum blends academic theory with practical skills to equip students with the on-set knowledge they need to actually land a job in the competitive field of cinematography.
