Courses on the Academic Year programme have been approved for inclusion on the Internationalisation Register of Programmes recognised by the Ministry of Education and Skills for purposes of access to employment by students from outside the EU / EEA and Switzerland.

Two-week teacher training programme offers 50 hours of practical training in the most-up-to date teaching techniques while also helping participants to improve their own language skills.

You can choose one of four course types:

• TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) Preparation Course.

Participants explore a wide range of topics including teaching methodology, exploiting and adapting materials, the increased role of technology in the language classroom, classroom management and approaches and activities for teaching all language areas and skills, in addition to teaching observation sessions followed by feedback meetings.

Our courses are suited to both lower level IELTS (5.5-6.0) and higher level (6.5-8.0). The IELTS preparation course aims to develop students’ general English language and skills knowledge while also providing a thorough preparation in the format of the IELTS exam. Classes give a thorough grounding in all four skills as well as expanding general English vocabulary, improving grammar and perfecting students’ functional and conversational language.

The Cambridge Examinations take place in March, June and December. Our examination courses prepare students for all the components of the examinations: Reading, Use of English, Comprehension, Listening Comprehension and Speaking. Students will complete sample papers and examination practice.

Our classes are small and very intensive with every effort made to prepare students for every aspect of the examination on a daily basis ensuring adequate cover of each of the skills. Please note that students must be at an Upper Intermediate Level of English to take part in this course. A placement test will be administered on arrival at the school to confirm the student’s level of English.

Cork English College has run these courses for a number of years and our students have achieved excellent results. On average, we have a pass rate of 97% for candidates taking the FCE and CAE exams.

The accelerated four-week programme covers all four skills and pays particular attention to grammar and lexical areas commonly tested in the exam.

As CEC is now an OPEN Cambridge Testing centre, students have the possibility to take the FCE and CAE tests in the college. CEC is the ONLY computer-based Testing Centre in Cork.
