General English courses form the foundation of your English knowledge, and give you the space to analyse, question and practise. They include speaking, listening, reading, writing and pronunciation. The aim is to help you use newly acquired skills in real-life situations, immediately. Whether you want to improve your English for work, study or pleasure, a General English course is the key to understanding the language.

General English forms the core of the teaching programme. Morning classes are based around a coursebook lesson, followed by a Speaking & Listening class. Afternoon and intensive courses offer you the chance to focus on specific language areas and may include the different options depending on your learning needs and preferences.

Student Castle Residence is located a short walk away from the school, close to the city centre as well as York’s iconic sites and a range of convenient local amenities. Living in 5-bedroom modern student apartments, you also have free access to the residence bikes as well as the on-site gym and common rooms. Located only 10 minutes from the city centre on foot, Student Castle is also close to two nearby supermarkets as well as the city's main attractions. Your en-suite bedroom includes a desk and storage space for your clothes. Within each apartment you will also have access to a shared kitchen and living room with TV. Bed linen is provided but you will need to bring your own towel.
