I chose OISE to improve my language skills and to meet other students of different nationalities.

One of OISE's longest running summer centres.

Swindon is located approximately 1 hour from London by train. Situated in the county of Wiltshire, this old market town was the centre of development of the railways in the area.

Swindon is home to Brunel's works that have been restored and remain an integral part of the town's culture and entertainment scene forming a modern pedestrianised centre, including a retail outlet with excellent shopping facilities. Despite this, part of the old town still exists and there are picturesque villages to explore just outside Swindon. OISE Swindon is based in the Walcot area and is a contemporary building with excellent sports facilities, complementing the many leisure amenities, restaurants and cinemas as well as parks and museums.

Every Saturday, there is a full day excursion to a local city such as Bath or Oxford, with sightseeing, shopping and a museum visit. Sundays are spent with the host family. Afternoon games include sports such as football, cricket, volleyball, tennis and squash. Other activities include treasure hunts, boat trips, crazy golf, coastal walks, activities on the beach, theatre workshops and photo challenges, as well as the extremely popular English cream tea.

Young Learners are greeted by members of the OISE courier team at London airports or the Eurostar terminal within standard hours as part of the package. Students are then accompanied to the Welcome Lounge, a facility with food and refreshments as well as activities to keep students occupied until they are taken onward to the school.

Cambridge Exam Preparation programme (CAE)
The course is only available for booking in the following dates:
From 14 to 17 years old 8 students per class 1 lesson — 45 minutes

The Cambridge Exam Preparation programme is an intensive six week course designed to familiarise students with the exam paper and improve both their English language skills and their chance of exam success.

Programme Features:

- Intensive tuition exclusively tailored to PET, FCE or CAE Cambridge exam preparation.

- Small groups of a maximum of eight participants, all studying the same examination.

- Classes are divided into groups of students of same level.

- Specialist Cambridge exam tutors with years of experience.

- Complete programme covering all elements of the exam with practice on authentic past papers.

OISE tuition hours are a full 60 minutes.

The intensive course includes 4.5 hours of classes a day divided into 3 hours of lessons in the morning and 1.5 hours in the afternoon.

The Cambridge exam is taken directly after the course. Classes are taught in groups consisting of a maximum of 8 students. The groups of up to eight participants allows greater contact with the language and interaction among students, ensuring maximum individual attention and feedback from the tutor. Students can take either the PET, FCE or CAE exams, and classes are divided into groups of students taking each one.

The course lasts for 6 weeks during the summer months.

The Cambridge Preparation programme is aimed at young people aged between 14 and 17 years who wish to familiarise themselves with the different aspects of the exam paper and overcome barriers to improve their level of English and ultimately achieve exam success.

The Cambridge Exam Preparation course is fast paced and uses a range of stimulating coaching routines to engage students and familiarise themselves with the test. Concentrating on the four skills tested in the exam: listening, reading, writing and speaking, the course covers each area in depth. Authentic past papers are used to simulate the exam situation and familiarise students with time management constraints.

The Cambridge test assesses the candidate's ability to communicate and comprehend material effectively, and the course is structured to appeal to these skills with activities such as understanding newspaper articles, developing self confidence through presentations and activities to encourage discussion and expression.

Learner progress is constantly monitored by the tutor who gives each student maximum attention in class due to the small group sizes.

The Cambridge exam is arranged for the end of the course.

Homestay

45 minutes from school on public transport
Minimum age — 14
Full board

Accommodation is with host families living in Nottingham and is on a full-board basis. All host families are thoroughly inspected and their credentials checked. There will be no other student of the same mother tongue in the family. Students are brought to the school by the host family on the first day, and from then on they walk or are provided with a bus or tram pass to travel to and from school as necessary.

Integration into family life is essential to make the student’s stay in the country enjoyable and to make the learning process complete. Living with a family gives students the opportunity to practise what they have learned during the lessons.

All families meet OISE’s standards: the houses are comfortable, the hosts are welcoming and, above all, are genuinely interested in receiving young guests and helping them to develop fluency in the English language.

Students share the family’s way of life by having breakfast and dinner with them, and joining in other activities such as sports and

discussions. OISE also ensures that each pupil gets the maximum opportunity to practise their language by not accommodating two students of the same mother tongue in the same home.
