All BLC teachers hold a minimum of a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL qualification. Many have studied Teaching English as a Foreign Language to a higher Diploma or Masters level, holding additional DELTA, Trinity DipTESOL and MA qualifications.

Here at BLC, we provide great facilities to enhance your experience of learning English. You will benefit from a central location right in the heart of Bristol, well-equipped multimedia centre with a total of 14 computers, as well as 18 modern and bright classrooms with interactive whiteboards and projector screens. Individual student tutorials are delivered interactively using BLC tablets and you will have free access to our online learning environment BLC Anytime. There are several break-out areas where students can purchase drinks and snacks, as well as the BLC shop for practical items such as adaptors and mobile phone credit.

General English TOP CHOICE
From 16 years old 12 students per class 1 lesson — 45 minutes
Course starts every Monday and is for all language levels

This course will enable you to quickly improve your English language skills and help you reach your goals. You will gain confidence and fluency in the language whether for leisure, further studies, or business. We teach practical real-life English for real-life situations.

Who is it for?

This course is suitable for elementary to advanced level students aged 16 and above. At the start of your course you will be placed in a class, according to your level. You can join the course at any time during term time* and study for the length of time you need.

Course outcomes:

You will develop English skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening

Your confidence in the language will improve

Your career prospects will be enhanced by achieving a level of English required for international business

You could progress to an academic English language course such as English for Academic Purposes, or an exam focused programme, for example FCE, CAE, or IELTS, to receive an internationally recognised qualification

How we teach

At BLC, we teach English in a communicative way. This means that you will learn English in an active and engaging environment, with plenty of opportunities for you to practice what you are learning. Our teachers are well qualified and experienced, and will give you all the support you need to improve your English.

We use a range of authentic material such as music, video, newspapers, radio and the internet, to help you understand and use real English. You will learn with students from all over the world, which means you will learn about other cultures, and at the same time, you will have to speak English with your classmates.

What’s included?

- Access to our online learning environment BLC Anytime As soon as your booking is confirmed, we will send you a login for BLC Anytime, which you can use before, during and for 3 months after you finish your course. Through BLC Anytime you will have an individual study plan, access to a vast range of online learning resources and much more.

- Access to our BLConTEXT service. While you are studying at BLC, we will send you a daily SMS text message to help your English language learning with links to videos, websites and photos.

- Conversation club. You are welcome to join our conversation club on Monday afternoons and make the most of the opportunity to practice speaking English with a qualified teacher and students of other levels.

- Access to BLC’s Social Programme. We offer activities and excursions after classes, in the evening and at weekends. Join other BLC students and our dedicated BLC Social Programme Leader for a night out, cultural activities or a trip to another UK cities other cities on Saturdays. (Many of these activities are free with an additional costs for things such as meals, cinema entry or train tickets. For full details see this months’ programme.

Elephant House

15 minutes from school walking

Elephant House - a BLC community where you can improve your English with students of many nationalities. Just 15 minutes’ walk from BLC, our Elephant House residence is ideal if you want independence at the same time as being part of a BLC community, with the chance to meet people and practise English at home. The residence has its own social programme, and benefits from a live-in BLC staff member who is there to take care of your welfare. The strict English language-only policy in this BLC community will help you learn English as you make friends.

Main features are as follows:

- Located in a picturesque residential area, with local shops in a friendly neighbourhood

- A BLC shared house, with nine high quality, new, bright and spacious student rooms (two of which are twin rooms)

- Resident BLC staff member

- Self-catering

- Residents must be at least 18 years of age

- Strictly no smoking

At Elephant House there is a range of accommodation, including an extra large ensuite room, mezzanine rooms with detached ensuite/private bathroom, and single or twin rooms with shared bathrooms. The twin rooms are fitted with a privacy screen, are single sex and can be booked on an individual basis.

Homestay

30 minutes from school on public transport

Half board/no meals

With easy access to BLC, staying with one of our families will give you a perfect opportunity to practise English and have a base from which to explore Bristol. In line with British Council regulations, our Accommodation Officer visits all the BLC Homestays at least once every two years to ensure our high standards are maintained.

Homestay half board is our most popular option. You will live as part of a family or household, in a single bedroom, sharing all the living areas, and with all the facilities at home that you need. Meals are provided (breakfast and evening meal on weekdays, three meals a day at weekends).

Choosing our self-catering option you live as part of a family or household, sharing all facilities, just like Homestay half board, but our self-catering option gives you the freedom to prepare your own meals. This option is only available to student 18 years old and above.

BLC City Centre Residence

No meals

BLC would like to introduce 5 brand new studio apartments in Bristol's City Centre. The new studios are 12 minutes' walk from BLC and include - Free Wi-Fi, integrated kitchen, en-suite bathroom, bedding and a wide range of communal spaces such as; pool tables, lounge, gym, study area, laundry room and bike storage.

Below are some of the key features:

- Recently refurbished modern living and the latest technology

- Located in the buzzing city centre, with a great choice of restaurants, pubs and shops

- Self-catering

- Residents must be at least 18 years of age

- Minimum stay is 2 weeks

Couple bookings are possible in the BLC City Centre studio apartments (by prior arrangement), but not in other BLC accommodation
